Spanner crab aka Tiger crab as the brand name implies originate from the pristine waters of the world heritage listed Fraser Island, or K'gari, just north of the Sunshine Coast and approximately 80 kilometres south of the iconic Great Barrier Reef.

Spanner crab (Ranina ranina) is unique amongst crustaceans. It is predatory by nature with its diet consisting of live saucer scallop, live king prawn and other molluscs and clams.

This premium diet is a major factor in the intense sweet flavour and succulent texture. It’s “spanner “like crab claw is designed perfectly for shucking scallop and other shellfish.

We source our spanned crabs from Fraser Isle Spanner Crabs. The Queensland spanner crab fishery was the first to be certified sustainable under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

The crabs are caught using specially designed mesh “dilly “traps and has zero by catch and zero impact on the environment.

So whether you fancy yourself a seafood connoisseur or simply love to explore the most local, natural flavours, we think you'll love the Fraser Island Spanner crab - perfect for an Easter feast!
